On the 3rd of February 1931, the bright horizon bringing a bright shining sun above marine parade in Napier to signify the start of a new day. Speedly the school children got dressed into their clean ,crisp uniforms , put their satchel (bag) on their shoulder and walked or biked to school . As the children sat on the mat, they felt a “crack”violent shake! The ground began to quiver. “Get under cover protect your head and hold on” would’ve been yelled out by the teacher. The ground continued to shake like a guitar string. The fields looked like the waves in the sea, rolling from side to side. And the earthquake had occurred.
The Napier earthquake had killed 256 people. It was a magnitude of 7.9 in size. There were 525 aftershocks recorded in the following 2 weeks. It is still considered to be New Zealand's deadliest earthquake.
How to be safe in a earthquake!
If earthquake occurs you are suppose to drop cover and hold. Stay indoors until it stops then came out.
Stay away from the windows.

If you’re in bed, hold on and stay there protecting your head with a pillow. If you’re outdoors, find a clear spot away from buildings, trees and power lines. Then drop to the ground
If you’re in a car, slow down and drive to a safe place
Stay in the car until the shaking stops .
To be prepared Make a survival kit this should contain
Bag, torch, batteries, matches/lighter , candles, tin food ,bottled water, manual can opener , first aid kit. Clothes. If you are in a car you need to be aware about the cracks in the road from the earthquake. Kathmandu jacket
